Using Words to Connect, Share and Inspire

February 23, 2016

In what feels like a different life, giving the elevator speech or a sound bite was drilled into my head when talking about myself. So here it goes: I love words! I love writing them; reading them, stringing them together, verbally, to tell a great story. And I love stories, too. Mine, yours; it doesn’t really matter as long as the story educates, entertains and inspires.

Words make you feel. Whether you laugh, cry or get angry, words evoke some sort of response. And I love that. A picture may be worth a 1,000 words to some, but I prefer the words so I can paint my own picture. Take Eli Manning as an example. A lot of us saw the picture of his supposed “non-reaction” to big brother Peyton winning his second Super Bowl earlier this month. There was A LOT of presumption about Eli’s lack of enthusiasm, which wouldn’t have happened had we been in the booth and heard him use his words.

But let’s get back to why I love words.

  • Educate: I believe you never stop learning and I want to learn something new every day. Learning didn’t stop at the school door for me and that’s a good thing because I was bored in school A LOT; unless it was a humanities or history class. I don’t have to learn anything formal or serious; I just want to learn something new or to be reminded of something I knew a long time ago but don’t use daily.

  • Entertain: I love a story that leaves me laughing, crying or thinking hmm…for the rest of the day. Whenever the written word inspires me to share it, I know I am gifting someone something special.

  • Inspire: Is there a better story than David slighting Goliath? Not for me. I love the underdog. Their stories have a special place in my heart. At one time, we were all the underdog; sometimes at our own doing. Overcoming those obstacles…that’s worth celebrating and sharing.

Life is journey, punctuated by the ups, downs and sideways of everyday living. Why not live it with feeling and share it using words. Some people, for a variety of reasons, will never have the opportunity to find, use or share their own voice; don’t be one of them. Let Tabula Rasa – White Paper, Red Pen LLC help you share your story to inspire the world. P.S., the background photo for this blog is from Tom Spader Photography. His photos never fail to speak to me. I could wax on about them for days on end so make sure you check them out.
